Geography – 8th Grade Student groups, adopting various perspectives, research a recent world/local event (hurricane, volcanic eruption, flood, war, famine, mass migration, earthquake, etc.). The perspectives students use could be: an environmentalist, a politician, a relief worker from the U.N., a local journalist, etc. Students create a slideshow of the event from their unique perspective to show to the rest of the class. Students write a journal at the conclusion to synthesize how various perspectives can influence understanding of an event. Students articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively through speaking and writing.
